Soccer City

Built on the site of the former FNB Stadium — the traditional home of South African soccer — Soccer City is the largest stadium to be used for the World Cup, with a seating capacity of 94 000.

The stadium — which is modelled on the traditional African calabash — will host the opening ceremony, first match and final game, as well as five first-round matches, one second-round match and one quarterfinal. Soccer City is located in Johannesburg’s south-west and is only a short distance from Soweto.
