Everton dumped out of FA Cup by Oldham

High-flying Everton were knocked out of the FA Cup 1-0 by third division Oldham Athletic in the third round on Saturday, becoming one of four Premier League sides to go out to lower league opposition. Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers were the other upset victims.

Ferguson stunned by Coventry defeat

Manager Alex Ferguson was left ”shocked and flabbergasted” by his Manchester United side that lost 2-0 to Coventry City in the League Cup on Wednesday night. The Scot fielded a young team against the Championship (second division) side at Old Trafford, giving eight players their first starts of the season.
