Toxic toy beads pulled from shop shelves

Toy distributor Just Fun Toys has recalled all its stocks in South Africa of Bindeez Magic Beads, the distributor said on Thursday. The stock was recalled as a new bead coating, changed by the Chinese manufacturer without consulting its developers, was found to be potentially harmful if ingested.

Dangerous toy beads recalled in SA

A voluntary recall of Chinese-made Bindeez toy beads has been extended to South Africa, a media report said on Friday. Certain batches of the beads, which stick together when exposed to water, are coated with a chemical which, when ingested, metabolises into the date-rape drug gamma-hydroxybutyrate.
